Ola from Coimbra –
It is Saturday night and we are in Coimbra, about 2 hours driving north of Lisbon. This is Robert reporting. Margaret is – shall we say – not in the mood for blogging at this moment. We have had a spectacular day driving out of Lisbon and getting into Coimbra. But Margaret will tell you all about that when she is able.
Let me just make a comment about the wines we have been enjoying while in Spain and Portugal. One of the principal varieties of grape used for winemaking is called Tempranillo in Spain, Aragonez or Tinta Roriz in Portugal. Introduced to Iberia by the Phoenicians (!), it is often blended with other varieties or aged for extended periods in oak barrels. Whatever, every bottle of this wine we have tasted has been incredible. Words cannot describe a wine; just get some and try it.
